Course Description

Fundamentals of engineering thermodynamics: energy, work, heat, properties of pure substances, first and second laws for closed systems and control volumes, gas mixtures. Application to engineering systems, power and refrigeration cycles, combustion. Prerequisites: Phys 2C and Chem 6A.

The eText is provided to you by the UC San Diego Bookstore through TritonEd and is free for the first two weeks of classes. After two weeks, your student account will be charged a special reduced price unless you opt-out. If you decide to opt-out you must complete the process by 10/12/2019 and you will be responsible for obtaining the textbook elsewhere. Homework

• Homework will be assigned each week and collected on TritonEd at specified due date/time. Late homework will not be accepted under any circumstances.
• Homework must follow specific requirements. See Homework Assignment Requirements and Sample Solution.
  
• Homework solutions and scores will be posted on TritonEd.
  
• Homework re-grade requests must include a written statement detailing the justification for the re-grade (be sure to indicate on statement: name, date, email address). Re-grades will not be accepted beyond 1 week after return of homework.

TA Discussion Sessions

There will be weekly discussion sessions to discuss student questions and solve sample problems.

Quizzes

A short quiz may be given in class regarding main points of lectured material. There will be no make-up quizzes.

Grading

• Quizzes - 2%
• Midterm Exams (2) - 40%
• Final Exam - 42%

However each student must do and submit their own work on all homework assignments, quizzes, and exams. Submitted work that is copied or taken from an unauthorized source (e.g., another student's work) or performed using unauthorized resources (e.g., calculator programs or notes during exams) will be considered as academic misconduct. Students with Disabilities
